A Brief History

Marsh Swamp Original Free Will Baptist Church, located in the community of Rock Ridge, was organized in 1873 on ľ acre of land sold for one dollar to the pastor, deacons and members.  The first building served the congregation until 1885 when a new building was erected.  As the congregation has grown, the church building has been enlarged and other buildings have been added. Through the years, Marsh Swamp has grown from a small congregation to over 400 members today.

The congregation of Marsh Swamp welcomes the opportunity to minister to you and your family. Come! Worship with us.

 WE BELIEVE

          1. That there is one God, whose eternal existence is in three persons: Father, Son, and

Holy Spirit; that all three persons are equal, but distinct persons. They are the divine

            Trinity.

          2. Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of God and was born of the Virgin Mary. He died

For our manís redemption and ascended to Heaven and is today at the right hand of the

            Father as our intercessor.

          3. There is one Holy Spirit, the precious gift of the Father through His dear Son.

          4. God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit are one.

          5. God created the heavens and earth and all events are present with God from everlasting

            to everlasting.

          6. The human will is always active and may rebel or respond to the call of Christ.

          7. The local church is an organized body of believers.

          8. The Bible is the inspired Word of God.

          9. That Salvation is the restoration of a man to his right relationship with God.

          10. That it is possible for a person who has been saved by divine grace to make

shipwreck of his faith and become lost.

          11. That all persons are accountable to God, except those incapable of responding to His

            call.

          12. All believers are to promote the honor and glory of God, observe the Lordís Day, and

worship God and observe the rites of worship.

          13. Tithing is Godís financial plan for the support of His work.

          14. That there are three Ordinances of the Gospel: Christian Baptism by immersion, the

Lordís Supper, and Washing of the Saintsí Feet.

          15. Death has passed upon all men and the soul does not die with the body. All people

will either find eternal life or eternal damnation.

          16. Jesus Christ is coming again to receive His own unto Himself.

          17. That angels are created spiritual beings.

          18. That man is responsible for his acceptance or rejection of Christ.
